The Gang Show can be a bit variable, and was sometimes hit and miss last night, but overall it was the best it has been for years. Almost everything was better than usual.
The second item is often terrible, but last year was really well sung, with some nice moments of comedy added in. The song and dance numbers are always a strength, and this year was no exception, with 'Red, White and Blue' the pick of the bunch by a mile. The sketches were also stronger than usual, with the stand out being 'Over The Sea', featuring the return of Bonnie Prince Charlie. The whole audience were in stiches from the moment a diminuitive Charlie stepped out of his boat. Featuring an arguementative historian, a panto dame wife and our own First Minister the performance are all strong but Charlie stands head and shoulders above the rest. The reworking of the Lady Gaga song born this way getting one of the biggest cheers of the night.
Highly recommended.
