Hermitage of Braid Visitor Centre The Hermitage of Braid, a 130-acre nature reserve running from Comiston to Liberton, is a haven for plants and wildlife. The visitor centre itself is located in the fine 18th-century mansion of Hermitage House, which has a three-bay ashlar front, with corner turrets, mock battlements and, inside, fine plaster-work and fire-places.

Hailes Castle, East Linton About a mile-and-a-half south-west of East Linton, Hailes Castle is one of the oldest constructions of its kind in Scotland, with origins dating from 1300. The west tower and vaulted cellar are two of the main features here; only a finger of stonework from the east tower remains.
